I originally qualified with the General Council & Register of Consultant Medical Herbalists in 1979 but decided not to press on when during my clinical practice I could hardly see the patient, and it was my supervisor foging up the room with his smoking. So when I heard that Dr John Christopher the most famous herbalist in the USA was coming over to teach at Cambridge University in 1983 I leapt at the chance to enrol, but sadly he died early in February that year and his lieutenant Richard Schulze came in his stead. He was a real blessing and proved to be the best teacher I ever had (and I had endured a heavily traditional education in East Africa and then the UK right up to a PhD level, my original intention being to tread the well worn path of becoming a university lecturer).
During my MA I set up a business selling hand made natural skin care and pot pourri pillows to support myself through university but even this, coupled with the scholarship I won to do my PhD, was not enough to keep my head above water. My brilliant doctoral supervisor Roy Fisher, a talented poet and superb jazz pianist, pointed out there was at the time (1976) only a handful of universities that taught American Studies and still a huge amount of prejudice against female lecturers. Hard to believe now but in 1974 I was refused a loan from a bank of £400 to set up my business simply because I was female and had no guarantor. In the end I borrowed the money from a friend to get it off the ground. Roy’s wise guidance drove me deeper into my fledgling company enabling me to write my first book about herbal beauty in 1980 and the business grew like Topsy. So much so it necessitated some outside finance as it was reaching a million turnover but over trading because department stores would often take 4 months to settle our bills. Consequently I was forced to give away my majority shareholding and within a year I found myself locked out of my office while the company I had built was floated as a PLC on the Stock Exchange.
I used the contractual money left to me to begin my studies into herbal medicine. A year after graduating from the American School of Natural Healing in 1983 I was awarded a PhD on the strength of a second book about herbal medicine. Since then of course I have written 8 more and you can see some of them on my website, the 10th one being my last. Though you know what they say…tell God your plans and make Her laugh! ’The Handbook of Mind/body Healing’ is truly about wholistic medicine which does not treat symptoms but takes the total picture into account. When you read it you’ll see its scope includes the emotional, mental, spiritual, social, environmental aspects of a person’s life, not simply the physicalities they represent. More importantly it then provides the tools to heal all of these aspects.
As far as diagnostic tools go initially I chose iridology (the study of the iris of the eye) because this is what Dr Christopher used. I studied with lecturers in the USA and Europe and took it to its highest level training with Dr lo Rito in Venice in spiritual iridology. After 17 years in practice I found it lacking in areas of vital importance to me showing me whether a patient had geopathic stress, stones (gall, bladder, kidney), parasites, food sensitivities, biological age, chakra malfunctions, whether a specific herbal formula was suitable for a specific patient, whether an acupuncture meridian was flowing as it should. All these missing parts and much more besides I found in bioresonance training over a period of 7 years in Germany. So my diagnostic tools became iridology which proved to be superb teaching tool for patients, explaining their constitutional strengths and weaknesses and their genotypes as a picture literally speaks a thousand words, together with bioresonance readings.
I had been taught the bowel is the centre of all good health and indeed this has been proven to be true in all the new research on the gut/brain connection so to this end I trained in colonic irrigation in 1988. When I owned up to this talent it was the kind of conversation that brought a dinner party to a grinding halt!
I became very intigued about exactly how energy moves through the body and to this end trained in traditional Thai healing massage up to a medical level, reiki, Swedish massage, reflexology, manual lymphatic drainage, and the Bowen technique. Finally, appreciating just how many patients were suffering emotionally and spiritually I undertook 7 years training in emotional intelligence, spiritual growth and metaphysics.
Now I find myself back to teaching as I once ran a school for 18 years training participants in herbal medicine, iridology, massage and colonics flying in brilliant lecturers from all over the world. After 42 years in practice working with more than 40,000 patients I have finally stopped consulting. But this time I am teaching worldwide on the internet. Teaching seems urgent to me now. Medical blunders in the NHS now account for 60% of it’s annual budget. Our health systems are collapsing in the UK inspite of the £204 billion spent yearly. The USA throws more money at healthcare than any other nation in the world and yet the most popular ways to die, heart problems, cancer, diabetes, dementia go on escalating at an alarming rate. Fewer than 10% of the population in the First World are reaching the age of 70 without being burdened by at least one chronic health problem. Of course life expectancy has risen from 39.4 years in 1860 to 78.9 years in 2020 but most of this is due to Dr Snow’s pioneering work on better sanitation and hygeine. If you were woman and survived child birth or a man and refused to go to war you’d have a good chance of living to 70 in 1825.
In the First World we simply cannot rely on our health system to help us, let alone cure us. So being intelligent, discerning and proactive about our individual health is absolutely vital. Hence my reaching out with acessible, simple, proven solutions to all sorts of health difficulties after a very long and productive career proving this is possible using tools readily available to most. I very much hope you’ll take advantage of those tutorials that interest you.
